Timeline  - Leben, Wohnen und Arbeiten

One room of the exhibition is dedicated to an illustrated timeline. It starts at about 1200 AD and for now ends in the year 2000, the last year before the fusion of the former Berlin districts. Important political, social, economic and cultural events and processes in the districts' history are shown in parallel. This allows one to see a longitudinal section of the history of each of the former districts. The cross section allows a comparison of the different districts at any point in time. The timeline’s intention is to reflect the differences, common features and interdependences of the three districts by showing major events throughout their development up to the creation of the new larger area. It also serves a further purpose in helping visitors identify individual elements of the permanent exhibition in their historical context.
