Köpenick 1990 to 2003

Karl-Ludwig Lange. The photographer in his era. Berlin from 1973 to 2004.

A series of exhibitions by the Kommunale Galerien in Berlin and by the Berlin Regionalmuseen as part of the 6th European Month of Photography in Berlin.

The works are allocated to the exhibition locations independently of any strictly topographic relation. Thus the photographer expresses his individual version of how Berlin developed. The Mitte Museum in Berlin-Wedding shows photos from Berlin-Köpenick. Both districts are related by the settlement policy of Prussian emperor Frederick II. The residential areas in what is today Bölschestrasse in Friedrichshagen, which Lange photographed in 1993 and 2003, go back to these settlements, as does Berlin Gesundbrunnen with the colonies on the Panke river.
The photos from Oberschöneweide are linked to the Berlin Wedding location by means of the history of the electrical industry. Walter Rathenau, director of AEG, created important modern industrial quarters in both areas.
Karl-Ludwig Lange created his artistic work for himself over a period of five decades. The cosmos of his photos is revealed to the beholder visiting all exhibitions of the ten-part project "Karl-Ludwig Lange. The photographer in his era. Berlin from 1973 to 2004". Karl-Ludwig Lange, born in 1949 in Minden, cooperated - among others - with Günter Horn and Will McBride. He is among the most important urban photographers in present-day Germany (www.k-l-lange.de).
Other people/organisations participating in the exhibition are: alte feuerwache >projektraum, Museum Pankow, Galerieetage Alt-Hermsdorf / Museum Reinickendorf, Kommunale Galerie Berlin, Humboldt Bibliothek, GALERIE in the RATHAUS TEMPELHOF, GALERIE in the MUSEUM TEMPELHOF, Museum Köpenick and the Mittelpunktbibliothek Köpenick Alter Markt. More than 1,000 photos from 1973 to 2004 are on display. The curator of the exhibition was Matthias Harder, a photographical historian and a museum curator in Berlin.
