Home is what was. Collages by Uta Richter

....prolonged until 14. October 2012....prolonged until 14. October 2012....prolonged until 14. October 2012....

The image of Berlin street Karl-Marx-Allee in a black-and-white photo is the theme of a series of collages by artist Uta Richter. In playful and provocative ways, she raises questions surrounding the theme of the German Wende from a distance of time and space. Familiar symbols from the East and the West are related to masks and bodiless figures of marionettes in a colourful and detailed manner, and are endowed with clever slogans and quotations. The viewer is invited to observe and interpret the figures not in a didactic way, but in an associative way.

The German artist Uta Richter, who lives in Geneva, has been working on subjects based on human nature since the middle of the 1990s. These are clearly reflected in the cycle shown here.

We would like to invite you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition on Thursday, 19 July 2012 at 5 p.m. in the Mitte Museum. The artist will be present. Music: Sinti Swing Berlin
