How two Berlins grew together - Book presentation

Lecture by Norbert Kaczmarek with subsequent discussion

Tuesday, 19 January 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Mitte Museum

"Revolution is when the administration is on overtime? Norbert Kaczmarek, former head of the Political Coordination Department of the Senate Chancellery in Berlin, witnessed the upheaval in 1989/90 very closely - from a very unique perspective. In these years Berlin inhabitants and citizens from all over the German Democratic Republic took to the streets, demanding a change of system. But contrary to any ideas about revolutions taking place in the form of spontaneous events in history, the author shows that no revolution ever came about without the support of administration. The peaceful revolution of 1989/90 also depended to a high degree on the work of many civil servants in the Federal and State administrations. Without their "administrative assistance" the reunification - the dream of many protesters in 1989 - would never have become reality!”
